An Appeal that is being sent around India by the I.A.P.L. for lawyers and others to sign that can be presented to the various state home ministries for the release of illegally detained Nepalese political prisoners in India including Com. धेरैलाई लागेको हुनसक्छ संविधानसभा निर्वाचन गर्ने घोषणा संसद्ले गरिसकेको छ । घोषणापत्रमार्फत राजाका अधिकार कटौती गर्दै संसद् पूर्णरूपमा सार्वभौमसत्ता सम्पन्न भएको छ । सेना तथा अन्य सुरक्षा निकाय संसद् मातहत आइसके । त्यसैले अबको वार्ता सहज ढंगले भइहाल्ला । केही बुद्धिजीवी तथा राजनेताहरू वार्तामा माओवादीका सेना र हतियारलाई बाधक ठान्छन् । त्यसैमा अहिलेको सरकारमा रहेका केही वरिष्ठ मन्त्रीहरू पनि जोड दिँदै छन् । यथार्थमा १२ बुँदे समझदारी बन्नुअघि र पछि अघोषित राजनीतिक समझदारीलाई मध्यनजर राख्नु जरुरी हुन्छ । माओवादी र राजनीतिक दलबीच सैद्धान्तिक, वैचारिक र व्यावहारिक विषयमा पर्याप्त भिन्नताहरू थिए । (more…)

The threat of American aggression against Iran has alarmed people everywhere. Right now the US is engaging in sabre-rattling, threatening Iran with military action, while, for the time being, pressing ahead with its efforts to impose economic and diplomatic sanctions. But as recent events (Iraq) and history have shown, such sanctions are often the prelude and even the path to a more violent settling of the issue. (more…)

After King Mahendra (Gyanendra’s father) and his Royal Nepalese Army (RNA), overthrew his government in 1960, the first democratically elected Prime Minister of Nepal BP Koirala asked himself in his jail diary: "Is the democratic system in Nepal compatible with the preponderance of the Nepalese Army?" After five decades of the democracy movement in Nepal, this question still haunts the Nepalis. Mesmerised by the royal proximity, Nepali democrats have time and again lapsed into amnesia, comfortably and willingly. The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Nepal (OHCHR-Nepal) has confirmed that at least 49 persons among those hundreds of individuals detained at army barracks in Maharajgunj remain disappeared. OHCHR-Nepal said that it received credible reports of at least three deaths due to torture. (more…)
