(more…)

Crowning Brown: Why the ruling class in Britain needs a new face?

Gordon BrownWe all know that Gordon Brown has been one of the two top leaders of the Labour government for the last ten years. He has been directly involved in decision making processes at the highest levels of the political establishment in this country. Is it fair to say that Gordon Brown is also very much responsible for the conduct of the British government for the last decade? Unlike Robin Cook, Clair Short and some others he has never opposed Blair, has he? In fact, Gordon Brown and his clique in the leadership of the Labour Party and the government have overwhelmingly colluded with Tony Blair and his Clique to deceive people.

Now the ruling class in Britain needs a new face. Tony Blair is highly discredited and his stay in power is wearing down the ‘credibility’ of the state. British ruling class and its political structures were in crisis when they brought Tony Blair and the ‘New’ Labour to power. The ‘New’ party and the ‘New’ face helped the old state to overcome the crisis that Conservatives under John Major were unable to resolve. One of the major unresolved issues was the degree of collusion with other imperialist powers especially the US and Europe . (more…)

Interview with CPN(M) chairman Com. Prachanda

PrachandaQuestion: Now that the interim Government has given itself the power to abolish the monarchy, if the King interferes in politics, don’t you think you should withdraw your demand for the immediate abolition of the monarchy?
Prachanda: No, we don’t feel that. Although the Parliament has already decided that two-thirds majority of Parliament can abolish the monarchy, in that sense we feel that our demand is justified.
Question: So you want Parliament to abolish the monarchy immediately?
Prachanda: Yes, we want that Parliament should take initiative and monarchy should be abolished immediately.
Question: But then what is the point of having a constituent Assembly in four or five months’ time. This should be decided by the Assembly.
Prachanda: The constituent Assembly is quite necessary to restructure the whole state. It is not the question related only to the monarchy. (more…)

No Power Can Stop People’s War in Bhutan - Vikalpa

Vikalpa, Secretary General of The Communist Party of Bhutan, Marxists-Leninists- Maoists (CPB-MLM) which was established in 2001. This interview is taken by BNS.
BNS: Why did you feel the need to establish Communist Party in Bhutan?Vikalp: Where there is suppression, there is revolt. Where there is revolt, it explodes the empire of suppression into pieces and creates the exploitation free society. But to initiate the revolt, a revolutionary party is necessary. Again, to establish a revolutionary party, a revolutionary ideology is necessary. Marxism-Leninism- Maoism is only that ideology in this 21st century. For this very reason, we thought of establishing Communist Party in Bhutan. Not only that, the old parties and organizations have reduced themselves into “Manpower Companies” and were engaged in sending their cadres to the foreign lands. They were involved in such works for their selfish dream. This also polarized the cadres into two groups, viz. pro-Bhutan and pro-US. We didn’t see the authenticity of revolution without establishing communist party, which is a common institution of freedom loving people in Bhutan and revolutionary exiled Bhutanese, representing the 95 percent down trodden people. Hence, we decided it correct, to establish the Communist Party in Bhutan Marxists-Leninists- Maoists. (more…)

The Real and Present Danger of U.S. War on Iran…and the Urgency of Resistance

Larry Everest
“I think we’ve got to be prepared to take aggressive military action against the Iranians to stop them from killing Americans in Iraq. And to me, that would include a strike over the border into Iran…”
-Senator Joseph Lieberman, interviewed on CBS News Face the Nation, June 10
This statement by Lieberman is the latest in a string of charges, warnings, and military threats against Iran by the Bush administration, others in the U.S. ruling class, and international allies of the United States. They reflect the rapid and profound intensification of contradictions across the Middle East, rising tensions between the Bush regime and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the grave danger of a U.S. military attack on Iran. Most people, including many deeply opposed to the Iraq war, are either unaware of or greatly underestimate this danger. This situation must change—now. Any U.S. attacks would be unjust and criminal no matter the pretext. It would represent a major escalation—with unpredictable consequences—of naked imperialist aggression by the U.S. in the Middle East. (more…)

What’s an Iraqi life worth? How about an Iraqi car?

The Measure of a Life, in Dollars and Cents. For the U.S. military in Iraq, it may be roughly the same.

A report released late last month by the Government Accountability Office examines the practices and rules guiding condolence payments that the U.S. military can distribute to families of Iraqi civilians killed “as a result of U.S. and coalition forces’ actions during combat.” These voluntary payments — known as “solatia” payments — can also cover injuries and loss or damage to property. They constitute “expressions of sympathy or remorse based on local culture and customs, but not an admission of legal liability or fault,” according to the report. The Pentagon has set $2,500 as the highest individual sum that can be paid. Most death payments remain at that level, with a rough sliding scale of $1,000 for serious injury and $500 for property damage. Beginning in April of last year, payments of up to $10,000 were possible for “extraordinary cases” but only with a division commander’s authorization. (more…)

(more…)

(more…)

Darfur: The crisis and the tragedy

View of the Communist Party of Sudan on the causes of the conflict in Darfur
The conflict in Darfur is decades older than the date of its recognition by the media and the international community. It is considered as one of the manifestations of the Sudanese crisis which started conjoined with independence and continues until now. According to our perception in the Communist Party of Sudan the main direct causes of this conflict can be grouped under the following two categories:

1. The historical roots of the conflict.
2. The role which was played by the different consecutive political regimes that governed the Sudan, and which eventually resulted in the escalation of the crisis till it was transformed into an international humanitarian tragedy, largely due to the atrocities committed by the National Islamic Front (NIF) regime, which took power in the Sudan on June 30, 1989.

(more…)

Let’s Give No Legitimacy to the Beneficiaries of the New Kot Massacre
Baburam Bhattarai
There was another Kot massacre in Nepal’s history on June 1st, 2001. Since the people are yet to get the facts of the tragedy, which killed King Birendra and other members of the Nepali royal family, it is evident that people everywhere are speculating and weighing conspiracy theories. As the saying goes, “paap-dhuri bata karaucha” [The sin shouts from the roof of the sinner’s house], we will one day know the truth. No one is ready to believe the propaganda which is being spread by the government and it’s foreign masters, especially since the way in which this tragedy is being explained—either the love affair or the accidental explosion theory—gives strong reasons to believe that the government itself is behind this tragedy. But this will only strengthen the just claim of the Nepali people to know the truth. So, a coalition between the nationalists and the people’s forces (NCP-Maoist) to unveil the real villains of the tragedy is what history demands from us at this particular moment of time. (more…)

How famous Journalist Krishna Sen was brutually killed

Krishna SenAfter five days of isolation and torture Krishna Sen died, the blows, boots, and lathis of the men in uniform raining down upon him. He was kept captive in the highest building in Mahendra Police Club, next to its Judo Hall. His hands were bound behind his back, and he was repeatedly asked to say “This country belongs to the king.”

Sen had been caught in Naya Baneswor on 20 May 2002 and been in captivity in the Police Club since. Journalist Sangeeta Khadka, who saw Sen at 2 AM on 21 May, said, “After some hours of torture, Sen was vomiting, his arms and legs were broken.” Khadka says two policemen were propping Sen up against a wall as a jackbooted DSP Bikram Thapa kicked him repeatedly. Concentration Camp in the heart of Kathmandu

A Google Earth view of Bhairabnath barrack showing the key areas wherem thousands of people were imprisoned, tortured, or killedEvery day, tens of thousands of commuters, civil servants, diplomats travel up and down Maharajganj. The Foreign Ministry and Teaching Hospital are across the street. Yet, just over the wall inside Mohan Shumshere’s former palace at Laxmi Nibas, which served as the headquarters of the Bhairabnath Battalion, thousands of prisoners were detained, tortured, and exterminated between 2003-2005. This was a concentration camp in the heart of the city. Bhairabnath showed how easily human rights groups, activists, and even international humanitarian organisations could be kept in the dark about the military’s dirty secret. (more…)
